In the Line of Duty by Isaiah McKinnon
A tribute to fallen law enforcement officers from the State of Michigan. This book tells
a story of over 500 officers since 1846, who were killed in the line of duty in Michigan.
This book is all about the 500+ police officers slain in the line of duty in Michigan
since such stats were recorded. The project actually dates back to mid-60s when
the chief was a rookie on the force. One of his superiors told him and his fellow
graduates of the police academy that "some of you guys won't live to be 25, you'll be
killed in the line of duty." The Chief reasoned "there's no way we'll ever forget fellow
officers who died in the line of duty." However, even he found that it was hard to keep
track of such sad occurrences and the idea stuck in his head until he was able to
complete his long time project - this book.
Stand Tall by Isaiah McKinnon Forward by Michigan Governor Jennifer
Granholm
Dr. Isaiah "Ike" McKinnon is an institution in the city of Detroit, Michigan. In the four
and a half years that he held the title of Detroit's Chief of Police, he became one of
the most visible public servants in the city and used the opportunity given to him to
enact a massive amount of change within the system in a very short time. After 30
years of service in the Detroit Police Department, he had the chance to bring his
innate integrity and years of observation to the office. And he thrived. After years of
obstacles and taking the road less traveled, Ike McKinnon thrived.
He fought crime on the streets. He tackled the corruption within the department. He
developed solid police programs solely aimed at the prevention of crime and made
sure that the police was accessible, courteous, and held responsible for its actions.
His message was clear - justice would be served.
North Between the Houses by Isaiah McKinnon
North Between The Houses is a collection of very funny, often ribald anecdotes
collected over thirty years of service by former Detroit Police Chief, Isaiah "Ike"
McKinnon.
Many of the stories speak to the hardships and heartaches that only battered urban
royalty like Detroit can sustain yet endure. Racism and poverty are common threads
woven into these tales, as are hope and humor.
sense philosophy strikes a chord in any struggle, competition or
business. In addition he focuses on the family, especially the youth, and
the impact "responsible leaders and adults" can have on their future. Dr.
McKinnon takes special care and time with young people, and is quick to
share a story or his heart to improve their self esteem or safety.
